Step 1. Basic programmed auto mode
The Canon EOS Rebel T6 flip-out screen camera has an essentially automatic mode in that the camera determines the shutter speed and aperture setting for the subject.
This mode works wonders for beginners in photography. The camera adjusts the aperture on its own and at the same time ensures precise exposure.

Step 2. Making use of the flash settings
If you are taking portraits indoors, we recommend you to shoot using ambient light instead of the camera flash for softer illumination and no red-eye.
However, with Portrait mode, you can’t inactivate the flash if the camera thinks more light is needed.
For portraits shot outdoors, a flash is generally not needed but it adds a beam of light to subjects’ faces. To enable the flash in the Av exposure mode, press the Flash button to the side of the camera.

Step 3. Choosing the shutter priority
Once you choose the shutter speed, the camera selects the appropriate aperture. Select a shutter speed of about 1/125 second or faster, if you’re using Live View.
We recommend you to shoot with the viewfinder when using slower shutter speeds.
To freeze action, use a shutter speed of 1/200 second or faster. While clicking a portrait if you want to blur images set the shutter speed to 1/60 second or lower.
Note that, while using the flash, the quickest shutter speed the camera allows is 1/200 second so that the shutter and the flash sync with each other.

Step 4. Choosing the aperture priority
There are several benefits of shooting a portrait in aperture priority mode. You can control the depth-of-field of your subject. The smaller the f-number (f/2.0), the larger is the opening.
It allows more light to enter the camera for exposure delivering a shallow depth-of-field, perfect for portraits. This setting blurs the background and highlights the main subject.

Step 5. Portrait Manual Mode with Canon t6
You can adjust both the shutter speed and the aperture in Manual Mode. Track the exposure scale in the viewfinder or on the screen. When the mark is in the center, the image is optimally exposed. If the exposure is not to your liking, you can easily adjust the shutter speed and aperture to alter the amount of light entering the camera.
