Glenfiddich was founded in 1886 by William Grant, who built it on the site of an illicit distillery and named it after his wife’s family home near Aberdeen. He sold the business in 1919 to another local distiller before buying it back again in 1932 with DCL (Distillers Company Limited). In 1963, DCL merged with John Walker & Sons Ltd to become Allied Domecq, which then merged with Pedro Domecq S.A. to form Pernod Ricard SA in 2005.
The distillery has a visitor centre which includes a museum and offers tours of the production process; these are included as part of the guided tour of the distillery itself which takes place every hour from 10:30am to 3:30pm daily during tourist season (April through October).
