Fine Art Film Wedding Photographer

What’s the Film Fine Art photography ?

There does not seem to be any explanation or definition of what art photography means exactly. On the other hand, a photographic art involves characteristics and techniques that cannot be denied; before the work becomes an art, the artist must have a vision of the final result. Fine arts are above all an artistic idea, a message, an emotion. The artist must transcribe through a photo, what he wishes to transmit. Art photography involves talent, but also a great technique, because what the photographer creates, his vision, his ideas and especially his result must be coherent.

The advantages of Fine Art photography

Fine Art photography cannot be learned with a diploma. It is above all a profound reflection, associated with careful work. The photographer works on his message, but above all on his motivation. What the image offers is just as important as the subject and must be directly related to the message. A minimum of technique is obviously essential, but not as important as it seems. What will make an artistic photograph is a real link between the photographer and his lens, and his shooting, and his environment. It is a true artistic statement, nourished by a passionate photographer. It brings a deep meaning to an image to convey a strong and intense emotion; this message, this idea, can be a simple word, or even a whole statement. This is why this art photography technique can be ideal for a wedding photo report. Whether it is a black and white or colour print, photographic art makes you shiver. Often far from abstract art, this photographic technique is part of the history of photography and the visual arts.

The professional photographer creates a real work of art, thanks to a contemporary and deep photography. Whether in landscape or portrait, art photography is often large format. This artistic photographic technique does not always require retouching, but a precise photo exhibition and an art print. Whether it is for a photo book, or a print run, your wedding becomes a wonderful memory, thanks to the beauty of art photography… Your photos are worthy of an art gallery in which the best contemporary artists exhibit. This trendy photography technique magnifies digital photography and promises a top-of-the-range result.

So, Why the Old Film rolls photography ?

Despite the progress of our digital cameras, it is now difficult to achieve the same level of quality as the rendering of a silver film developed by a laboratory like Carmencita Photo Lab in Spain for example.

The silver film brings something more natural, softer and more contrasting. Chemistry reacts differently from an electronic sensor. A film is able to take all the nuances of an image when the digital camera derives its white balance in a software way. The film Argentique also has a technical particularity. He captures the highlights in an incredible way. In other words, the strongest, whitest and brightest lights are no longer all white as with a digital camera. Laboratories are able with the film to find a whole series of details in the images. For all these reasons, the film thus offers a more qualitative, brighter, more authentic rendering, like a fake leather and a real leather. From a distance it’s the same, but once in the hand before our eyes, it’s incomparable… Here are some comparisons between digital (Nikon DF) and silver (Contax 645):

On this image taken during a wedding in Saint Tropez, I worked in Argentique (left) and Digitale (right). Although I have processed my digital image to be close to my Argentic look, we can see here that the greenery behind the dress is more natural and colorful on the film, like the shadows on the ground that have kept their more blue appearance.

For example, here the difference in color

Above, the difference in sharpness, the reflections in the spoons are incomparable.

And finally, even without the color rendering, the details of the curtain fabric show how much a silver film sees more than a digital sensor, and finally, one last one. 3 photos taken in London and Saint Tropez at different times and situations. You will notice beyond the beauty of the images the coherence and homogeneity of the rendering. All these images are processed by the same Carmencita photo laboratory.

Fine Art Wedding Album

WHY A FINE AT ALBUM?

Your beautiful wedding day has come and gone so quickly. Once you’re back from your honeymoon, it’s onto work and getting into the swing of things with your new spouse! This is such an exciting time, I know for Mike and I, this was so different considering we weren’t living together before our marriage. It was quite a change for us and we loved it!

Whatever your situation is, you are getting into the swing this new beautiful stage of your lives together. As weeks pass you receive your wedding images and it brings back all the amazing memories from your wedding day but now what? This is where many couples don’t know what to do with their digital online gallery images.

The BIGGET thing I can say to do, is when budgeting for your wedding, set aside the cost for your wedding album! If you don’t do this, it’s unlikely that you will ever get an album afterwards.

You might think you’ll get around to printing your images and making an album, but honestly that’s not always the case. I want to share a little realness with you…. the LAST thing I as a bride wanted to do after our wedding, was sit at the computer and design an album or spend more money after our wedding. My brain was over making decisions and I needed off time from any type of research or choice making. I just wanted a wedding break, can you relate?!  I believe that prints are meant to be experienced, they are there to pull you back into a moment as you look at it with loved ones. I am beyond passionate about Albums and don’t want you to miss out on it!

Why An Album?

#1

Once your wedding day is all said and done, the images are the thing that will last generations. This is something you’ll be able to flip through with your spouse on an anniversary, show your kids or even grand kids. As I am all for digital images, these files can easily get lost. Will usb drives/facebook be around when your grandkids are born? Most likely not! An Album is something that is special and easy to grab instead of searching for the digital images on your computer.

#2

You invest anywhere over 2k + on a photographer, why not invest into an album? There is something so valuable in being able to hold these images rather than view them on a screen. Why not invest into this value for you, your spouse and future generation. When you buy an album, you not only are saving your memories, but you are creating an experience for your future family.

#3

Online photo books are a fun idea for little gifts but the results are not the best. I DON’T recommend this for a wedding album. I have made many quick photo books from online shops (before I became a professional photographer) and the quality just isn’t there. You get what you pay for when you go the cheaper rout. Trust me when I say, there is nothing fine art or high quality about it. If it’s your wedding album, do yourself the huge favor by leaving it for a professional!

#4

If you’re bride who isn’t a photographer, you will have to research many Labs which are most likely “photographer only labs.” Meaning you wont be able to order since you aren’t a photographer. This leaves you at a huge disadvantage because A. you probably don’t have a professional lab up your sleeve and B. This would take you many hours since this most likely isn’t your profession. Over all, you won’t have a fine art album if this isn’t your expertise.

The lab I work with is more than just an album company. At Dekora, I see them as part of my team! If you’re a photographer and want to provide Fine art albums, I highly recommend Dekora Albums!

For AOP Clients

Most album companies you see now days, are thick and bulky. I as a bride wanted more of a fine art, hand torn edge album that wasn’t just a trend, but that was truly timeless. Since this was my big thing, I budgeted higher due to the “fine art” being a higher price tag. Let me tell you, the team I work with is beyond all of that. Since this is something I value, I wouldn’t want to give you less then that. I want to share with you the process for what to expect as an AOP couple. I also, will share below our wedding album to give you an idea of the fine art standard these albums are!

THE PROCESS

1- Depending on the collection you booked, I give anywhere from $50-$75 album credit. Why? Because I am passionate about album heirlooms and want to get you started!

2- Not long after receiving you Online gallery, I put together an Album draft. I will send this your way and you can make any changes you’d like whether that’s moving images around, swapping out images or adding more spreads in order to have more images. This is your heirloom so you can have as many edits and revisions as needed to give you the Album you’ll always be excited about.

3- We will go over the cover options and materials. I will send you over all the add on options if you choose to fancy it up even more!

4- I get the approval by you and will then place the order

5- Approx. a month after your order is placed, your album will be safely shipped to you

6- Your art piece is now in your home and you’ll have it to always look back on
