Pros and Cons of a Hexagon Engagement Ring
More and more brides are gravitating toward hexagon engagement rings due to the nontraditional nature of the shape. While this stone shape is rarer, there is still a range of options for the style. The hexagon cut works with a variety of different stones, particularly color stones. “This cut brings a lot of light into the center of the stone, but ultimately, any stone can be cut hexagonally,” says Bario. Additionally, hexagon rings also look great in a variety of different settings—from solitaire to cluster—so you have options.
If you choose a hexagon cut for your stone, keep in mind that the edges could dull over time if your ring is not properly taken care of. Therefore, ensure that your stone is in a durable setting, such as prong or bezel. Also, since hexagon engagement rings have defined edges, they are more prone to snag on clothing or soft surfaces. Since snagging may be a potential issue with this style, make sure to take your ring off while doing any activities where it could get in the way. Keeping small ring dishes around your house to hold your ring when you take it off is an ideal way to prevent damage.
What to Look for in a Hexagon Engagement Ring
Does a gemstone have to be hexagon-cut to be in a hexagon setting? Not all hexagon engagement rings feature diamonds that are actually cut into this shape. Round-cut diamonds are commonly placed into hexagonal settings, making them appear geometric. These stones look more angular when accompanied by a diamond halo or a fleet of baguette stones.

How to Care for a Hexagon Engagement Ring
For cleaning your diamond hexagon engagement ring, just use a bit of lukewarm water and gentle soap. Then, carefully use a soft-bristled brush to scrub your stone until it is once again sparkling and clean. However, if you opt for a colored gemstone, it may require more care than a traditional diamond. For example, if you decide on a topaz gemstone, consider that it ranks slightly lower on the Mohs scale of hardness than a conventional diamond. This means that you need should be extra gentle when caring for and cleaning your ring.
Regardless of the stone, keep the ring stored in a cloth-lined box when you’re not wearing.
